July 11, 1999 | Prints o' death

Here are some haiku inspired by Renaissance prints about death:

Your words have run out,
my friend. Now, let us walk in
the blank pages. Come.
What is there to teach
a snake about courage? I
tell it: walk barefoot.

Blame blows cold breaths through
rents in men's clothing. Enjoy
this warmth for what it is.

Somewhere I have heard
drumming like this. So near, yet
now it escapes me.
